Why the Interest in Fashion?

FASHION IS MY PASSION

This could be a long story but I think I will start with how I learned to sew in the fourth grade.  Learning this skill gave me such a love for fashion and design.  We would have to pick out a pattern and see it in our minds eye already made into an outfit.  You would have to imagine it made with the fabrics you had available to you.

The fabric that was on the pattern’s front cover would most often not be available to you.  Besides what would be the fun of that?  Enjoyment came from creating your own design.  Making it your very own.  No one else would have one just like you.

We learned to sew in 4H.  It was a project that we would show off and be judged in a fashion show.  This show would take place in the Agriculture Extension Building in Calhoun County.  It holds great memories for me.

We would choose our whole Outfit/Style/Look such as shoes and accessories to go with whatever outfit we sewed.  Back then we all wore dresses.  So that most often was what we sewed.  I really don’t remember all the projects I entered.  But I do really remember the very first one.

My first project was a shift style sleeveless dress.  The fabric had little red and white flowers on a tan background. The hardest part of the whole project was the darts in the front.  I remember after that I would try to choose patterns that did not have any darts.  I could not make them end smoothly.  I would end them too soon or they would be too crooked.   Then the two sides wouldn’t match.  I really learned what a ripper was that first summer.  God bless the lady that taught us!  I thought she was wonderful!

Another hard part to sew was the facings around the neckline and arm holes. Being round made it difficult to sew without getting puckers in it.  I had to redo sections of these many many times.

But I learned so many crucial factors that make a quality garment.  One of my pet peeves is when stripes do not line up front and back.  Those factors play an important part in the clothing items I purchase for my boutique. I want quality.

I hope you enjoyed reading about why I got started with an online presence.  I hope you will follow me on all my social media and of course check out my website.
